Mr. Uchenna Dike defies tradition and family expectations when he chooses love over societal pressure, marrying Ikunda, a woman living with sickle cell disease. Cast out by his parents for making this choice, he builds a new life with her. But their happiness is cut short when Ikunda dies from preeclampsia during childbirth, leaving Uchenna alone to raise their two daughters, one of whom also carries the same genetic burden. Now abandoned by his extended family and left in a society still steeped in stigma and ignorance about sickle cell disease, Uchenna must summon every ounce of strength to protect, nurture, and fight for his daughters. MZIGO (BURDEN) is a deeply emotional, Pan-African story about resilience, fatherhood, and the power of unconditional love in the face of social rejection and loss.
