Justin Hopper plays 'Professor Parkins', a spectral guide to Mark Fisher's work and life The film explores Mark Fisher's ideas on hauntology, capitalist realism and collective consciousness, but also enacts them. It uses the very tools of communicative capitalism - the algorithmic, monetised spaces of social media - to build something outside capital's logic. By working directly, the project functions as a de-capitalised artwork: a self-organising network rather than a production pipeline. Methodologically, the work draws from both situationism and rhizomic production - rejecting linear authorship in favour of open systems of exchange. Its iterative process mirrors the hauntological condition Fisher described: repetition, rupture and return. Each contribution became an echo, a trace, or a reanimation of the social and theoretical energies that Fisher once catalysed through his writing and teaching. The result is a 65-minute film assembled from dozens of voices, locations and media types - not as a collage of content, but as an evolving commons of meaning. It is both critique and manifestation: a work that asks whether it's possible to use the tools of late capitalism to imagine something beyond it. The work also resembles Fisher's K-punk in style (his blog) in that it takes an online zine style in terms of production. For example, we are situated at Mark Fisher's computer in his study for part of the film, with his bookshelves surrounding us.
